Role
within team: To lead, build and empower small in-house team of engineers
collaborating with outside clinical advisors/researchers,
customers to advance new product development (concept, validation,
manufacturing, introduction and on-going revision). |
Job
Duties:
-
Lead recruiting, training and
development process for each R&D team member and overall team.
-
Lead and conduct quarterly and
annual performance reviews for each team member.
-
Lead product development process
to define clinical and technical design parameters, prioritize
projects based on patient needs/R&D risks, assign task responsibility
(including self), and meet product introductions deadlines.

Lead development and on-going
optimization of uniform systems for product development (CAD/CAM,
FEA, project management, engineering, manufacturing, and intellectual
property documentation/attainment).

Identify and foster key external
relationships with clinical advisors, researchers and consultants
to conduct independent and well constructed safety and efficacy
research trials on all existing and new Ultraflex technology
for publication in relevant peer reviewed scientific journals.

Assess all emerging technology
in materials, testing, scanning, modeling, CAE etc. in both
assistive technology and in general industry to optimize product
development.

Conduct periodic design reviews
to achieve elegant, functional and simple designs.

Report R&D results (benchmarks,
goal attainment, budgets) on weekly, monthly, quarterly and
annual basis to peer team leaders in MRD, CTS, MAP, RAM and
MVS.
Position
Attributes Needed:
education: BS/BA in biomedical, biomechanical, mechanical
or electrical engineering required. MBA a plus.
training: AutoCAD, Solid Works or Solid Edge and
FEA software. Training in human motion analysis in a clinical
or research setting a plus.
experience: minimum five years experience in leading
a small team of R&D professionals (3-5) in the successful development
and introduction of new proprietary medical device technology
in a start-up or small company environment. (less than 100 employees).
behavioral: Good at both technical details and big
picture regulatory/market issues common in medical device product
development. Has achieved high team productivity in applied research.
Proven problem solving and conflict resolution skills between
strong willed, sensitive and creative individuals. Player-coach
that commands both respect and results that are extraordinary.
