Position:   O&P Technician

Role within team: Tech working on a brace
In the process of fabricating a custom molded brace, O&P technician conceives the basic idea and functionality of that brace.  Based on anatomical data and functional goal of the patient, the technician initiates the production line.

For this functional brace to work properly with the patient, technician considers three major problems: 1) how to capture accurate representation of patient's anatomy with given negative cast; 2) how to locate anatomical joint axis that delivers proper articulation of aimed extremity; 3) how to maintain level of high quality workmanship within timeframe of entire production.

The O&P technician's main contribution to the production team is to create a quality foundation so the rest of team can build a superior brace upon it, delivering our technology to patients in a timely manner.

Job Duties:
  • Participate in varying degrees in all phases of the fabrication process to include:
    • Vacuum forming high density plastic and foam
    • custom metal work
    • cutting
    • grinding and polishing of complex surfaces for form and function;
    • component assembly
    • custom fit brace to patient
    • custom finishing (e.g., sewing straps, quality control, packaging)
    • receiving
    • shipping
  • Locate and adjust anatomical joint axis on negative cast
  • Prepare negative molds (cast) for plaster casting
  • Mix and pour plaster into prepared molds
  • Strip negative mold off of cured positive mold
  • Modify positive mold in accordance with given brace design
  • Thermoform modified molds with plastic
  • Meet daily production goals in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining a standard of high quality
  • Interface with teammates through a gained understanding of the different disciplines in the fabrication of braces
  • Reporting standards on a weekly basis
  • Any other duties in the interest of the Company as needed or assigned
Position Attributes:

Education:
 
  • Graduate of accredited O&P program with strong emphasis on analytical geometry
  • Certified O&P technician a plus
Training and Experience:
  • Technical or trade school helpful
  • Anatomical classes a plus
  • Background in skilled craft work – woodworking, sculpture, metalsmith, auto body work, custom sheet metal, etc. – artisan artistic spatial
  • Shop, construction and/or fabrication experience
  • General knowledge of tools and hardware
  • Carbon composite fabrication is a definite plus
